Sugar Sugar

We call our wives and girlfriends “sugar.”  They are so “sweet!”  But they don’t have a negative effect on our health condition.  It least not while they are “sweet!”  But the real sugar is sweet too!  In this short article I want to look at sugar from the viewpoint of, “is sugar necessary?”  For too many people, including some of my customers, sugar has become “the enemy.”  Sugar is blamed for obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and perhaps other ailments.  Speaking of diabetes, why do diabetics eat candy?  I thought sugar was bad for them?  Remember, I am not a doctor, I have no credentials, no certificates, and no degrees, I am just saying!

The question is “Is sugar necessary for our bodies?”  I am asking this question because I see people eliminating sugar from their diets.  I see some doctors advising their patients to eliminate sugar from their diet completely!  All sugar is being eliminated; although, I know some use coconut sugar.  I have noticed weight loss or weight maintenance (steady weight) from some of those that have eliminated sugar from their diet.  However, they also implemented an overall dietary plan, not just eliminating sugar from their diet.  As a vegetarian, I only use raw sugar in our baked goods, and personally in my coffee and tea, then I’ll consume juices, yogurt, ice cream every blue moon, and fruits and my weight is steady.

Every food that we consume has sugar in it.  If the food substance does not contain sugar our bodies convert it into sugar!  I should say that carbohydrates, (which sugar is considered), are converted to sugar by our bodies.  I might need to write a part 2 to this article because this is important and I want to get it over.  Food is categorized as protein, carbohydrate, starch, fat, vitamin and mineral.  Our bodies need these nutrients daily to allow proper functioning of our system.  Sugar provides us with energy.  Just as our wives and girlfriends provide us with inspiration.  Sugar is considered necessary for this reason.  Experts agree that limiting the amount of sugar on a daily bases should be enforced.  Too much consumption of sugar, any kind of sugar will lead to poor health.  Too much of anything is not good!

My mother used to say something about making a “meal out of sugar.”  Image that, someone has cake, ice cream, candy, and soda for breakfast, lunch and dinner!  We should consume a “balanced” meal.  For example, in one of our cooking classes I prepared Vegetarian Spaghetti and Zucchini Balls.  The meal included spaghetti squash with our red sauce, zucchini balls, salad, tomato soup and whole wheat rolls.  The dessert was a slice of natural pound cake.  In part 2 of this article, I want to talk about the different sugars we put into our bodies and the different sugars that are processed (absorbed) inside of our bodies and the effects of both if any.
