Sustainable Food Enterprise

We, I use the word “we” because I would think you are like me in that, we hear the word “sustainable” a lot these days.  So, to paint the picture, let’s go big.  Was Rome “sustainable?”  How about old Babylon, old Egypt?  They were not “sustainable!  They fell?!  Is America “sustainable?”  Is she rising or falling?  Okay, do you get the picture?

Is the American food system sustainable?  How is your health?  Are you disease free?  What sustains you and I?  These questions are found in the titles of a few articles I want to write about in the future.

The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad said two things.  The first is that “the farm is the engine of our national lives.”  The second is that, “the farm is first.”  Then the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said, “Agriculture is the engine of civilization.”  The other article in this series is titled, “Happiness comes by living by law.”

Look, the American food system is broken.  It has been hijacked, and taken over.  The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan used the phrase, “the merchants of death” to describe these corporations that are not interested in the health and wellbeing of the consumers, but more so interested in collecting a dollar.  However, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad said, “you don’t have to condemn a dirty glass, just put a clean glass beside it.”

How do we put up a clean glass?  How do we develop a sustainable food system or enterprise?  You can start by learning how to grow your own food.  You can educate yourself, by seeking knowledge, determining what a sustainable food system is.  You can share the information you have acquired with others.  You can pool your resources, labor, time, etc. to build a sustainable food system for your family, block, neighborhood, community, district, city, etc.

I like to say, we are what we eat!  Our motto, “nothing but the best and later for the rest!”
